Canine Resources
At ECI we appreciate the importance of a safe secure school system, as well as its
importance to the community and each of our futures. We also recognize the
serious budget constraints faced by school systems around the country.
ECI is a professional company with numerous canine explosive detection assets based
around the nation, with concentrations located in the Washington, DC., and Atlanta,
Georgia Metropolitan regions. We feel that as a professional company, we should try
to help out in the communities where we live, work and our children go to school.
Simply put, we want to give back to our communities.
With the above in mind, ECI is pleased to offer completely free of charge safe school
programs in Northern Virginia, Southern Maryland and the Atlanta, Georgia Metropolitan
area.
How this program works is simple.
After requesting services, a member of our senior staff will conference call
with school staff and discuss the process of performing canine sweeps within the school. Legal paper work will need to be completed by the school board
President or Superintendent, and returned to ECI.
ECI will then schedule service dates and times with the school’s staff. Sweeps are
performed and school authorities are notified of any areas of interest.
One of the greatest benefits of this type of program comes from its
deterrence value. Deterrence comes from not attempting to conceal the random, periodic and unannounced presence of canines from the student body.
While it is important the canines are visible to the student body, the date and time of the random sweeps must not be pre-announced.
We do not utilize so-called contraband dogs which are trained on numerous
substances such as drugs, alcohol, firearms, etc. There are myriad problems, pitfalls and dangers involved with cross training of dogs for this purpose.
We are strictly explosive detection dog teams. If you are solely concerned with drug
detection and wish no charge service, we recommend that you contact a law enforcement
narcotic detection dog team. If you have a School Resource Officer (SRO), they can
provide liaison.
It is also important to realize that we are neither law enforcement, nor normally a
substitute for 911. In an emergency, the police should always be your first phone
call.
Bomb Incident Management and Search Training
On occasion, ECI will also be able to offer bomb incident management and search
training courses, without charge, to schools in the described region.
If you are interested in applying for this program, please contact Jeff Cottle

The Fine Print
This program is only being supported for schools grade pre-K through 12.
A release must be signed and received before we can provide any services.
If you have a School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to you, they must be included in
the planning process and it is the sole duty of the school staff to ensure that they
are.
ECI provides absolutely no guarantee(s) with respect to our services under this
program.
Availability of support under this program is on an “as available” basis and whether
or not to provide support is the sole decision of ECI management personnel. Additionally, ECI teams may be diverted for other work if required for ECI mission
support.
ECI reserves the right to change, modify or discontinue support under this
program at any time.
