2. Visually examine each piece of mail in
accordance with the Letter and Parcel Bomb Recognition Points placard.
3. Place the examined mail in a tray or a tub
for x-ray screening. If using a tub, mail must be no more than 1/3 of a tray
deep. Flats must be flat in the tray.
4. X-ray the mail utilizing the X-Ray Image
Warning Indicators ("eight eyes") placard.
5. Locate and visually examine each piece of
mail in accordance with the Letter and Parcel Bomb Recognition Points
placard.
6. Mark each piece of screened mail using your
site approved method.
IF YOU NEED TO "BAG" THE
MAIL (HAZMAT ONLY - NEVER DISTURB A BOMB):
1. Remove the
lid from the top of the associated container and place it on the floor.
2. Place the article in the first bag and place
your gloves (if applicable) on top of the article.
3. Fold the inner bag over the article. Do not
attempt to seal the bag or to squeeze the air out.
4. If any substance leaked from the article, do
not attempt to cover it. Doing so may cause material to become airborne, may
spread contamination and/or increase exposure.
5. Perform Personnel Decontamination.
PERFORMANCE OF PERSONNEL
DECONTAMINATION:
1. If
possible have another person assist you.
2. Take off easily removable clothing. Never
pull clothing over your head. If pullover clothing must be removed, cut it
off.
3. Do not touch your face, body or anything
else that you do not absolutely have to touch.
4. Move to the nearest sink, remembering to ask
others to open doors, turn on water, etc.
5. Wash your hands and other areas of known
contamination using cold water first and then soap and warm water.
6. Wait for emergency services personnel to
arrive.
SECURITY RESPONSE:
1. Notify law
enforcement & emergency services.
2. Control personnel access to, and from, the
scene. Do not directly enter the scene without good reason.
3. Reassure affected personnel.
4. Shut down air handlers in the affected
areas.
ABOUT PERSONNEL PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT (PPE)
1. Only use
gloves if your hands are not contaminated. Putting gloves on contaminated
hands will only increase exposure by "grinding" the material into
the skin.
2. If approved by your organization, use other
PPE as may be required.
